Yokomo International Drift Meet 2018 in Singapore Event Report

The Yokomo International Drift Meet (YIDM), an international RC drift competition held annually in various Asian countries, took place this year on Saturday, March 25th and Sunday, March 26th, at Far East Plaza, a tourist destination on Orchard Road in Singapore. The special circuit for this year's YIDM was set up in the main atrium at the entrance of Far East Plaza, where many visitors stopped to watch with great interest.

The event featured four classes: CS (4WD), OPEN RWD, YOKOMO RWD, and TANDEM (teams of three cars). Participants traveled from countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia, resulting in a heated battle involving a total of 158 cars.

Judging was handled by Takahiro Ueno from Japan, who is an active driver in the D1 Grand Prix and a judge for the Yokomo Drift Meeting Special Round, along with Masami Hirosaka of Team Yokomo.

The surface of this special circuit was an indoor P-tile track, a first for YIDM. While participants struggled with how to increase car speed on the low-grip surface, the high-level, bumper-to-bumper tandem runs driven by the techniques and setup skills of the top-ranking competitors drew cheers from the crowd.

After the intense competition, a standing banquet party and awards ceremony were held at the same location where the circuit had been, making it an event filled with constant smiles from the participants. The winner of the YOKOMO RWD class was awarded an airline ticket to the Yokomo Drift Meeting Special to be held at the Yatabe Arena on December 8th–9th this year.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Hobby Haven and the entire Singaporean operations staff for managing the competition.

We thank you for HABBY HAVEN and crew of Singapore.

from Yokomo.
