These are tapered pistons for the YD-2 series SLF Big Bore Shocks. As a Teams brand product developed with the input of Team YOKOMO DRIFT members, one side of the piston face features a tapered shape, providing different damping characteristics depending on the installation orientation. Placing the tapered side facing down softens the shock's rebound feel, while placing it facing up softens the compression feel.
Additionally, the piston holes are sloped at an angle relative to the direction of shock travel. Due to fluid dynamics, the damping force changes in response to sudden shock inputs; this allows for supple movement during normal operation while effectively suppressing chassis instability when traversing gaps.
In the drift category, shock settings are often kept soft. However, using shock oil that is too thin can easily lead to a breakdown of the oil film between the O-ring and the shock shaft, momentarily spoiling the shock's performance. Therefore, these tapered pistons feature a drift-specific 6-hole design with more holes than standard, making it easier to maintain the oil film when using oil around #300 viscosity.
