A full year has passed since the shocking World Championship victory, and now, the BD8—which could arguably be called a masterpiece—delivers another shock for the 2018 season! We have remade the rigidity balance that serves as the heart of the machine, featuring newly designed main chassis and upper deck components that significantly affect the chassis characteristics. The main chassis is an aluminum model optimized for high-grip surfaces and stock category racing. Furthermore, we have revised the materials for the steering blocks and front/rear hub carriers, significantly strengthening them to bring out the machine’s stability. With basic performance that has already satisfied Ronald Völker through extensive test driving, we have achieved the perfect balance to win the increasingly intense 2018 season!
SPECIFICATIONS
The front spool features a housing and pulley molded as a single resin unit, achieving a significant weight reduction. Reducing the weight of the rotating parts lowers the gyro effect and improves driving performance; turn-in to corners becomes quicker, and handling during direction changes becomes more stable. The axle section is made of high-durability steel and features a polished finish for smoother operation. An optional aluminum version (using resin adapters) is also available, allowing you to choose between the high durability and traction of steel, or the lighter weight and improved performance of aluminum.
While the front and rear hub carriers and steering blocks share the same geometry as previous versions, the resin material has been completely changed, significantly increasing part rigidity. Handling during cornering is now markedly more stable, improving line-tracing precision. Naturally, the increased strength also enhances the durability and crash resistance of the parts themselves, resulting in better cost performance.
By revising the shapes of the rear main chassis and upper deck, we have modified the rigidity balance. This makes it easier for rear traction to engage when the chassis rolls, allowing for more stable driving. Even when using setups that prioritize cornering, the rear is less likely to break traction, shortening the time spent in corners and leading to improved and more consistent lap times. Additionally, the aluminum chassis lowers the center of gravity and increases rigidity, making it suitable for high-grip surfaces and further increasing cornering speed.
The pivot balls used for the upper arms and steering assembly have been increased in diameter from the conventional φ4.3mm to φ4.8mm. This not only makes them more resistant to crashes through increased durability and rigidity, but testing has also confirmed that they operate more smoothly under the load of suspension movement, resulting in better traction. For the driver, this is a change that is even more noticeable than the data suggests.
To optimize battery retention and chassis twist, we have newly designed the battery holder and adopted a style where the strapping tape attaches directly to the chassis. This reduces stress on the chassis caused by securing the battery and makes the battery less likely to eject during an unexpected crash.
A 40T pulley that enhances drive efficiency and reduces the load on the belt comes as standard equipment. The large-diameter pulley improves roll through corners and reduces the feeling of deceleration, allowing you to exit corners faster and resulting in higher top speeds. In stock categories, it is also possible to set the belt tension slightly looser, realizing high-efficiency, high-speed driving with minimized drive loss.
The motor mount is included as a version compatible with the PCS (Pitching Control System). The optional PCS for the BD8 2018 can be easily installed, allowing for free adjustment of pitching rigidity in combination with the motor mount's screw-fixing positions.
